The Classroom
Our
Toddler I program is designed for children ages 12 months to 24 months. The
Toddler I classroom has lots of space for exploring.
We offer
areas for gross motor activities such as our ramp and stage, rocking
seahorse, climbing stairs, and push and pull toys.
On
shelving in the classroom, you'll find materials such as peg boards and
pegs, blocks, stacking toys, shape sorters, and more. These items are rotated
on a regular basis to give the children variety without overwhelming them.
The
children also enjoy pretend play in the dramatic area. Dress-ups and
"cooking" are a favorite of theirs! They also enjoy
"shopping" and taking care of the baby dolls.
In our
sensory table you may find sand, water, shaving cream, snow, oatmeal, rice, and
other textured items.
You'll often hear lively children's music playing throughout the classroom that the children love to sing and dance to. At naptime, the children fall asleep to soothing lullabies, classical music, and nature sounds.
Diaper changes take place at least every two hours, or more often if needed.
Your child will have a morning snack, afternoon snack and lunch while at LFLC. If your child arrives early, they are also welcome to have their breakfast at school.
Drinks are available to the children during anytime of the day.
Naptime usually takes place around noon, however, if a child needs a nap earlier and/or later, they are always accommodated. When children go to sleep the teacher may sit next to them and pat their back to help them fall asleep.
The teachers understand that toddler's needs and moods vary day-by-day and the teachers make adjustments, accordingly.
Parents provide diapers, wipes, food, snacks, drinks and a change of clothing.
The
sleeping area is for our youngest toddlers. There are three cribs that children
are able to take a nap in, as needed (all cribs are disinfected on a
regular basis and before a different child is put in the crib, and all children
have their own bedding). For the older toddlers in the group, rest mats
are provided for naptime.
In the
diapering area we have a shelf above the changing table to hold each child's
diaper, wipes, and ointment. A washable, non-porous changing table is provided
for diaper changes. The changing table is cleaned and disinfected after every
diaper change.
In the
food prep / eating area, a sink is provided for hand washing, and a microwave
is available for heating your child's food. A small refrigerator is also
provided for our young toddlers that are still using bottles. There are two low
tables for the children to sit at during snacks and meals. For those little
ones not quite steady enough for sitting at the table, there are trays that
attached to the low wooden chairs so they can still enjoy the company of their
friends, while sitting safely.
Your Child's Needs
Your
child's basic needs are very important and the Toddler I teachers always make
sure these needs are met.
